When we are facing difficulties, we tend to try block them out or run away from them.  This tends to make them worse because what we resist will persist. Trying to fix our problems is not necessarily helpful but turning towards them and 'being with them' gives a sense of the difficult experiences feeling 'listened to' and 'cared about'. In this meditation we learn to 'be with difficulty' and tend to them, much like a small child who has hurt their knee - with care, kindness and compassion.
